A Man Who Failed 1000 Times - Thomas Alva Edison

Introduction

(February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931)

Thomas Alva Edison was an American scientist, Inventor and a businessman. Who has been described as an American's greatest inventor. He is credited with many devices in fields such as
  • Mass Communication
  • Electric Power Generation
  • Sound Recording 
  • Motion Pictures
But he is more familiar in the field of Electric Power Generation as respect to other fields. 
He became popular when he invented an Electric Light Bulb after 1000 attempts. He is often credited with establishing the first industrial research laboratory. He died in 1931 of complications of diabetes.

Early Life

Thomas Edison was born, in 1847, in Milan, Ohio, and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Ogden Edison. Edison only attended school for a few months and was instead taught by his mother. Thomas was very dull in study, one day he came with a letter from school, on the paper was written “Your son is addled (mentally ill) we won’t let him come to school any more ". This was the time were the revolution starts and now he has over 1000 patents in his name. Many of his inventions still have a major affect on our lives today. He was also a business, entrepreneur.

Thomas Inventions with Electric Light

In 1878, Edison focused on inventing a safe, inexpensive electric light to replace the gaslight–a challenge that scientists had been grappling with for the last 50 years. With Some Help Edison set up the Edison Electric Light Company and began research and development. He made a breakthrough in October 1879 with a bulb that used a platinum filament, and in the summer of 1880 hit on carbonized bamboo as a viable alternative for the filament, which proved to be the key to a long-lasting and affordable light bulb. In 1881, he set up an electric light company in Newark.

Most Famous Inventions

Thomas Edison has the patents and credits for many inventions. Three of his most famous include: 

The Phonograph - This was the first major invention by Edison and made him famous. It was the first machine that was able to record and playback sound. 

Light Bulb - Although he did not invent the first electric light, Edison made the first practical electric light bulb that could be manufactured and used in the home. He also invented other items that were needed make the light bulb practical for use in homes including safety fuses and on/off switches for light sockets. 

The Motion Picture - Edison did a lot of work in creating the motion picture camera and helping move forward the progress of practical movies.
